Organizing Services are beyond the realm of hope for many!

  • It is estimated that 1 in 50 people have a hoarding disorder and it could be as many as 1 in 20.

  • The health of any family often relates to how well organized the parents are.  In lower socio-economic (low-income) families the quality of life for the children is greatly increased when organizing services have been provided.

  • Often the therapy provided in traditional therapeutic offices for those with AD/HD, depression and other root causes of disorder fall short of being successful because of the individuals inability to apply the skills and tools given.  This is where a good organizer really makes the difference between change and whether lasting change occurs. It is all about application and creating habits.

Professional Organizing is a highly skilled profession and the typical rates charged range from $40 to $75 per hour and more for business organizing. The skill sets involved are worth every penny of the investment because they create lasting change.

For the majority of people hiring an organizer to help them catch up to a busy life or get through a major life transition that has caused them to fall behind is a luxury that they can afford, if they allow themselves.

However, these service are beyond the range of hope for many who have, without help, unsurmountable challenges.

The disorder in the lives of  hoarders and individuals with other special needs such as those who suffer from brain injury, AD/HD, depression, etc. is debilitating and impacts not only the sufferer but also their families and our communities.

In the last 4 years I have had hundreds of phone calls and encounters from individuals seeking help who cannot afford my services even on the sliding scale fee plan that I have in place.

It breaks my heart to say no.  Often I don't say no and I put in an average of 125 hours of services pro-bono per year.  I cannot continue to do this all on my own.  Therefore, with my background in social services and compassion for special populations I am taking decided action toward making it possible to bring these services to these populations through the Non-Profit World.

What are the decided actions?

  • I have started a discussion forum which getting national attention among the Professional Organizing industry.  This forum is purposed to create strategies through which Professional Organizers can access resources that will enable them to seek funds, write grants and implement meaningful programs through or to Non-profits.  Our first conference call will be in January of 2011.
  • I am creating a campaign to assist, in a big way, a local Hoarder.

Hoarding Behavior is often triggered by trauma such as the death of a loved one, victimization by a violent crime, etc.
